The Lord is not resurrecting your old man. He always deals with you according to your new identity, the new creation that you are.
The discipline of the Lord is about Him correcting your thinking and realigning it to your identity in Christ. He helps us recognize and deal with the lies we are believing that cause us to act like that old, dead man. This is His correction, His discipline, and it is not as the world disciplines.
Many times, we suffer natural consequences from the choices we make and say it is the Lord's discipline. No, He wants to spare us from consequences of our wrong thinking that causes us to act in a way that is not in alignment with who we really are. His correction is about realigning us, not spanking us, and punishing us.
