Do the Ten Commandments need to be in classrooms?

I heard about Louisiana making it mandatory to put the ten commandments back in every classroom. I know it sounds like a good sentiment and I would have agreed at one point, but not anymore.

I remember how I felt whenever I looked at the ten commandments. I would try not to break them, and I always failed. This is because the only thing the ten commandments can do is bring condemnation. It doesn't bring a solution to our problem. If it brought condemnation to those it was given to, why do we think it won't do the same for us if we don't understand the context and purpose of the commandments? Our carnal mind will always look at them and think we must do them in our own strength to ple

I think of all the kids and teenaase God if we don't know the solution, which is Jesus living in us.

gers who will look at them as they sit in class and think that there is no way they can do these things, but they will exhaust so much energy TRYING in their own strength and failing repeatedly.

Eventually they may give up and say they want nothing to do with a God who requires what they know they can never do perfectly. Most of these kids and their families will not understand the who, what, where, when, and why of the Bible. They parrot what has been passed down to them.

I personally think verses about grace, His love, and the new covenant should be in the classrooms. There are so many verses that will help draw these kids to know the One who is crazy in love with them.

We inherently know what is wrong. Before I knew Jesus, I knew deep down when I was living in a way that wasn't best for me and those around me. I ignored it because my desire to just have love any way I could get it was often something that drove me to keep doing the same things over and over. But, when I met the One who absolutely loved me, I slowly began to live a different way. The things I tried to avoid and failed, I don't think about anymore because my mind is on Jesus and His life in me. He has caused me to live as Him in increasing ways.

The ten commandments will never be what we need to improve behavior. Only Jesus can do this as He works within us causing our desires to be His desires.
